Christy Armstrong reports: The Cleveland Board of Education is looking at the possibility of purchasing additional land in front of the new Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School.

The school is located at 4445 Georgetown Road N.W. (Highway 60). While the building is visible from the road, Cleveland City Schools actually does not own all the land between the school and the road.

During a school board meeting Monday, Director of Schools Dr. Russell Dyer told the board two lots adjacent to the school — Lots 9 and 10 — are up for sale. Each is about 1 1/2 acres.

The director asked the board whether he should discuss purchasing the lots. Dyer said Bank of Cleveland was selling each lot for $325,900, and a “discount” for buying both would result in a cost of $611,800.

No formal vote was made on this matter. However, board members asked Dyer to look into the district possibly purchasing Lot 10. The board would vote on any purchase at a later date.
