Tim Siniard reports: Residents in the Georgetown Road area near Hopewell School will experience water service interruptions beginning 9 a.m. today (Monday, October 3rd), according to Cleveland Utilities.

On Friday, Sept. 30, CU said a Tennessee Department of Transportation contractor is installing new water mains as part of the Highway 60/Georgetown Road widening project.

CU said transfers from old water mains to new water mains will last for several days.

The utility said water service interruptions will take place in the following areas:

  • Georgetown Road – from approximately 3,000 feet north of Hopewell Place to Georgetown Drive
  • Freewill Road – between Georgetown Drive and Georgetown Road
  • Hopewell Drive and Hopewell Place.

According to Cleveland Utilities, customers in the area should experience only one or two water service interruptions, lasting for a few hours each time. Scheduled water service interruptions will not begin before 9 a.m.

After the interruptions have concluded, CU said some customers “may notice cloudy or milky water as a result of the work.”

“The cloudiness is a result of extra air that entered the distribution system and plumbing,” CU said, stressing the “water is safe to drink.”

“The cloudiness can generally be cleared by flushing cold water for three to five minutes,” the utility advised.
