In news today…

Some Cleveland Utilities customers will experience water service interruptions as a Tennessee Department of Transportation contractor installs new water mains as part of the Highway 60/Georgetown Road widening project.

The contractor will be completing transfers from the old water mains to new water mains beginning at 9 a.m. today.

The work, which will last several days, will take place in the following areas: Georgetown Road (between Lilac Drive and Georgetown Road); Georgetown Drive (between Camellia Avenue and Georgetown Road); Azalea Avenue; Carnation Avenue; Sunflower Circle; Lilac Drive (east of Azalea Avenue); Old Georgetown Road, Cindy Circle; Ann Lane; and Gregory Lane.

The interruptions are expected to last several days, CU said.

Customers in the area should experience only one or two water service interruptions lasting for a few hours each time. Scheduled water service interruptions will not begin before 9 a.m.

After the water service interruptions, some customers may notice cloudy or milky water as a result of the work. The cloudiness is a result of extra air that entered the distribution system and plumbing.

The water is safe to drink, and the cloudiness can generally be cleared by flushing cold water for 3 to 5 minutes.
