Topping our news today…

At around 3:30 AM Monday morning, Bradley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Rabbit Valley Road and Bigsby Creek Road in northwest Bradley County.

Upon arrival deputies discovered a single vehicle had struck a pole.  The driver, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

Due to the fatality, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was notified, and took over the investigation.

In news today…

The Cleveland City Council voted Monday to make former Mayor Tom Rowland the first ever Mayor Emeritus of Cleveland. Mayor Rowland held a state record of 27 years as Mayor.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

The cause of a fire that destroyed the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2598 earlier this month is indeterminate.

That is the conclusion of an investigation conducted by the Cleveland Fire Department, as well as the post’s insurance company.

Cleveland Fire Department Chief Ron Harrison said there was no clear-cut cause, and that the fire may have started in the kitchen area of the building.

The fire, which began at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, caused the tin roof to collapse; however, there were no injuries. In addition, no one was inside the building.

The VFW will be holding fundraising events in the future to raise money for a new building. Those wanting to donate to the reconstruction project can also donate to an account at Regions Bank.

And finally…

Two children reported missing yesterday in Cleveland were quickly located thanks to an alert and diligent citizens in our community.

Police were called to the intersection of 17th and Church Street around 11AM yesterday. That’s where 3-year-old Zackery and 1-year-old Zoe went missing. Police did not release their last name. An alert was issued via Nixle and emergency alerting on cell phones.

As citizens and police searched the streets of Cleveland looking for the children, a stranger found the children on the side of the road, not far from the house where they went missing. She picked the children up and took them to the Bradley County Justice Center.

Police are still trying to determine what happened that put the two children in danger.
