A convicted felon pleaded guilty Monday to taking part in the killing of Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo more than nine years ago, but he is expected to be released soon as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Hardin County Judge C. Creed McGinley sentenced Jason Autry to eight years in prison after Autry pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder and facilitation of especially aggravated kidnapping. Autry gets credit for time served in the case and he could be released in the next few days, said his attorney, Michael Scholl.
Autry provided key testimony in the 2017 trial of Zachary Adams, who was found guilty of murder, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape. Adams was sentenced to life in prison plus 50 years.
Adams is appealing his conviction. His brother, John Dylan Adams, also reached a deal with prosecutors. He is serving 35 years in prison.

Bradley County Criminal Court Judge Andrew Mark Freiberg has recused himself from a case in which Tenth Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump is being accused by a convicted murderer of having been blackmailed into securing her conviction at a 2018 trial.
Crump has denied the allegations, which came to light when Chattanooga attorney Bill Speek filed a series of motions seeking a new trial for his client, Miranda Cheatham, who was convicted in the killing of her husband, James Cheatham, in 2016. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison, though she has maintained she was acting in self-defense.
His recusal does not affect the upcoming hearing scheduled for Oct. 9 and his order to bring Miranda Cheatham back to Bradley County on Oct. 1. That is, pending future directives of a newly assigned judge.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a soon-to-be mother watched a man murder her husband.
TBI agents say a weekend crime spree spanned several Tennessee counties, with the suspect killing a man before taking a young couple hostage.
Agents say Jordan Stevens and his wife Aileen were carjacked and taken hostage before Jordan was killed in front of her.
The TBI says Aileen was also inside the same car where the suspect crashed and took his own life in Marion County.
The crime spree ended on Interstate 24 in Marion County near mile marker 156, according to Marion County Sheriff Bo Burnett.
Those closest to Jordan say he sacrificed himself to save Aileen and his unborn child.

During the Bradley County Commission meeting on Monday, County Mayor D. Gary Davis asked the Commission to place several items on the voting agenda for next week’s voting meeting, including a resolution allowing the Mayor to sign a contract agreement with the federal government establishing a new rate for the housing of federal prisoners in the Bradley County Jail. Mayor Davis also complimented the Sheriff and his department on the successful jail certification. The certification process is done unannounced, and many jails often do not pass. Bradley County passed with flying colors.

Lee University has been ranked once again in the upper tier of Southern universities in the 2021 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges.
This year Lee ranked #33, moving up one spot from last year, within the top 50 “Best Regional Universities” category out of 132 Southern universities, which included both public and private. The ranked schools are evaluated in up to 15 areas related to academic excellence such as graduation rate, peer-assessment, freshman retention rate, student-faculty ratio, and acceptance rate.
In addition to the main ranking, Lee appears in three specialty rankings this year. These include “A+ Schools for B Students,” the “Best Value Schools” listing, and “Best Colleges for Veterans.”

Reports say the couple was traveling to Gatlinburg when they became disoriented and lost. The latest updates indicate that the couple has been found.
