In news today, the following statement has been issued by Lee University:

Our students’ well-being is of utmost importance to Lee. We take seriously any allegations of sexual misconduct, thoroughly investigating each case according to the Title IX regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Education. The situation involving Jimmy Phillips relates to an accusation that took place in 2014. At that time, Lee fully investigated the allegation, which Mr. Phillips categorically denied. To Lee’s knowledge, there were no further allegations or developments related to this matter until 2018, when the complainant filed a police report related to the 2014 allegations, at which time a criminal investigation was initiated.

The university has cooperated fully with law enforcement, and to its knowledge, no action was taken by law enforcement against Mr. Phillips between 2018 and the present time. Lee has not been privy to the police investigation or activity that led to the recent grand jury indictment. The complainant has not initiated any official report to Lee in that time.  Lee also is not currently aware of any other allegation of misconduct against the former employee.  Because this is an ongoing criminal matter, Lee is not able to provide more details to the media.

We encourage any Lee student who has been affected by sexual misconduct in any way to contact our Title IX Coordinator, Brittany Gates, at 423-473-3817 or bgates@leeuniversity.edu. Students may also contact the Lee University Counseling Center at 423-614-8415.

A group of student-athletes from Bradley Central High School chose to spend their fall break putting their hands to work.

Daniel Cox and his peers with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter at the high school spent Monday repairing a wheelchair ramp and made other repairs for a family in need on Wilson Boulevard in Cleveland.

Realizing that the pandemic put a stop to many repairs for homes in need of repair, Cox contacted Crossnet Baptist Network in Cleveland to find out what his group could do.

A spokesperson for the Network said they help about 70 families per year but have not been able to due to obstacles from the pandemic.

More than 30 students from Bradley Central H.S. will have worked on the project by the middle of the week.
