Bradley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence on Bates Pike early Monday morning.
The homeowner called 911 after discovering his back door ajar, and the suspect inside the home. A fight ensued between the homeowner and the suspect as the suspect attempted to escape the residence, ending with the suspect fleeing the scene in a gray Ford Ranger.
Deputies made contact with the pickup and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect increased his speed and led a short pursuit before coming to a stop. Deputies took him into custody after he attempted to resist.
During the investigation is was determined the Ford pickup had been stolen, and Mr. Appling was also in possession of meth.
Cody Tyler Appling, age 31, was arrested for Aggravated Burglary, along with other charges.
He was booked into the Bradley County Jail. Mr. Appling is being held on a $20,000 bond, and has a court date of November 20, 2018.

Rick Norton reports Help has arrived for Bradley County property owners who want, or need, a break from the conventional lump-sum payment of 2019 taxes.
Enrollment is now underway for the popular partial payment program, an eight-year-old installment plan that allows home and property owners to avoid the sting of a bulky, one-time tax payment by making smaller payments on a more manageable monthly basis.
Enrollment for this first registration period will continue through Friday, Dec. 7, according to Mike Smith, Bradley County trustee. A second sign-up will be offered early next year from Jan. 3 through Feb. 8.
The first payment under the installment plan will be due March 15, 2019.
For additional information about partial payment, or about two other popular Trustee’s Office tax programs — tax relief and tax freeze — call the office at 423-728-7247.
The Trustee’s Office is no longer located in the Bradley County Courthouse. Since last year’s fire, the office has operated from the old SouthEast Bank building at 1701 Keith St., which is located at the intersection of 17th and Keith streets.
Earlier this year, the Trustee’s Office signed a five-year lease to continue operating in the facility, and not return to the Courthouse once it reopens.

A Chattanooga-bound flight from Chicago made a U-turn last Tuesday.
SkyWest flight 5277 was close to the Kentucky state line when it turned around, according to the website FlightAware.
Channel 3 spoke with a passenger on the flight who said it was relayed to passengers on board that the airport did not have the equipment needed for the plane to land in the Scenic City.
The flight returned to Chicago, and passengers were put on a new plane and flown to Chattanooga.
A spokesperson for the Chattanooga Airport said he was asked by United to pass all inquiries about the flight to United.
The exact reason the flight had to be turned around has not been released.
