An update on a story from yesterday…

Yesterday, we reported on a brief pursuit that took place Sunday on North Ocoee Street. We now have more details on that incident. A Bradley County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop on a blue van that was traveling north on North Ocoee Street above the posted speed limit. The van continued to travel even after the patrol deputy initiated audible emergency equipment. A detective was able to position his vehicle in front of the van. Once the detective slowed down for a traffic light showing red, the van struck the rear of the detective’s vehicle which led to the end of the brief pursuit.

Contacts was made with the driver and three occupants of the van who were immediately detained. A positive alert on the van by a K-9 deputy led to the discovery of approximately four ounces of methamphetamine, two loaded handguns, multiple cell phones, and numerous other items identified as drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the van, Christopher Graves, 27, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, as well as the other occupants of the van, face numerous charges. The occupants of the van were: Taylor Marie Jones, 20, of Lithia Springs, Georgia; Chad Coleman, 29, of Lithia Springs, Georgia; and Tyson Lynn Vaughn, 36, of Cleveland, Tennessee.

The gift cards can be used toward offerings such as lodging, camping, courses and dining.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

State Sen. Mike Bell (R-Riceville), co-chairman of the Tennessee Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, has been elected to serve as a member of the Executive Council for the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC).

The announcement was made  at the recent 14th Annual NASC Legislator Summit in Acme, Michigan, following a ballot vote among states in attendance.

The National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses works to create a nationwide network of legislators to shape a wide range of policies that address issues facing hunters and anglers in America.  This includes recruitment, retention and reactivation, as well as protecting waterways from invasive species, increasing access and opportunity, and many other issues. The goal is to share best practices for conservation-policy and growth for sportsmen.

The latest numbers show Tennessee boasts over 1 million hunters and anglers that spend over $1.8 billion annually and support over 26,390 jobs.

Bell is chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee and represents Senate District 9 which includes Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe and Polk counties.  He was recently awarded the 2016 National Legislator of the Year Award by Safari Club International for advancing legislation to promote hunting.
