In news today…

Dr. Heather Hayes has been named the new principal at Waterville Elementary school. Hayes has been serving as interim principal at Waterville. She was formally the dean of students at the school.

Bradley County Schools currently has two other principal openings, at Hopewell Elementary where Tim Riggs has announced his retirement, and at Ocoee Middle where Ron Spangler is retiring.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect who was captured on surveillance video breaking into a business in the northern part of Bradley County, TN. During the incident cash was taken in addition to property that was vandalized.

Anybody with information regarding about the location of the wanted person is asked to call the sheriff’s office Crime Tip Line at (423) 728-7336, or send an anonymous tip via text message through the agency’s tip411 mobile app.

An anonymous tip via text message can be sent to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office by texting the keyword BRADLEYSO and YOUR MESSAGE to 847411.

Candidates in contested races of the May 1st Bradley County Primary Election took in approximately $130,000 in campaign contributions and spent that much for materials including advertising, signs, T-shirts and other campaign materials.

According to records at the Bradley County Election Commission Office, so far candidates for the May 1 election have had two financial disclosure filing deadlines: First Quarter filing covering Jan. 16-March 31 and the Pre-Primary filing covering from April 1-21. The next financial disclosure filing is due on July 10.

In his challenge, Sheriff-Elect Steve Lawson received $42,068.87 and spent $35,247.55 in the first quarter; in his pre-primary filing, he took in $11,831.24 and spent $17,847.28.

Incumbent Sheriff Eric Watson received $25,999 and spent $38,327.98 in the first quarter; in his pre-primary filing, he took in $16,085 and spent $18,027.80.

A teenage boy was taken to a local hospital after he was injured while cliff jumping in Hixson on Monday evening.

Firefighters were called to the 6000 block of Water View Lane in the Hidden Harbor Subdivision at 6:30 p.m., according to a news release.

The boy had fallen 40 feet and sustained serious injuries after hitting the water.

First responders had to hike a quarter mile down the trail to reach the boy.

His current condition is not yet known.
