Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male captured on surveillance footage.

On March 25, 2017 patrol deputies responded to AirSystems Unlimited, which is a local business located at 5668 South Lee Hwy., in reference to a vehicle burglary. It was discovered a cell phone and car battery were taken out of a company vehicle which was in the parking lot. Camera footage showed that in the early morning hours of that date a male jumped over the fence and made entry into the van. Additionally, the footage showed the male carrying the battery away from the vehicle. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office released images from the video footage recovered by investigating detectives. These images can be found in today’s news on our website at mymix1041.com.

Anybody with information regarding the theft and/or identity of the male suspect is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 423-728-7336.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

A minor mishap at the Cleveland Regional Jetport occurred after a small aircraft went off the end of the runway as it crash-landed there Sunday afternoon.

The incident led to the Cleveland Fire Department being contacted in case of potential grass fires or if it needed to tend to the aircraft, but neither event occurred.

According to CFD Fire Marshal Ben Atchley, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and when Engine 2 from CFD Station 2 (Paul Huff Parkway) arrived, it found the plane up and stable. He said that reports at the scene of the incident noted the aircraft had trouble with its landing gear.

Cleveland Jetport Director Mark Fidler said the incident involved a single-engine aircraft that was en route back to North Carolina after carrying passengers to an event in Shelbyville. He said that there were four passengers aboard the plane.

“The pilot lost control seconds after becoming airborne,” Fidler said, and attempted to land, only to have a wing on the aircraft heavily damaged.

“It sustained significant damage and is not flyable,” the Jetport director said, “but we are pleased that no one was hurt.” He added that there was a short pause in examining the runway before allowing normal operations to continue.

Along with the Cleveland Fire Department, the Bradley County Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene, but the passengers reportedly did not require medical attention.
