In news today…

Cleveland-based Terra Running Company, owned by Brittany and David Durkin, was announced as a “2019 Best Running Store in America” on May 22, at the Best Running Stores Awards ceremony, hosted at an industry trade show in Tucson, Arizona.

The 2019 Best Running Store in America distinction is awarded to 60 of the top running specialty stores annually.

The “2019 Best Running Store in America” award is based on community nominations, vendor recommendations, an owner questionnaire and community involvement.

The Durkins have spent a lifetime working running into their daily lives and are now sharing that experience locally with the residents of Cleveland, Bradley County and the Ocoee Region.

Community is important to the Durkins, who serve on community boards including the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the retail store, Terra Running Company helps dozens of local organizations coordinate races event timing and management services, such as the annual Cleveland Half Marathon, Tall Betsy 6K and Terra Trail Half Marathon, Bear Claw Trail Race and the Cleveland Thanksgiving Day 5K.

First responders in Grundy County were able to locate 17-year-old Skyler Copeland after three hours of searching in the Tracy City Reservoir, according to Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum.

He said first responders immediately took action when they saw Jason Copeland and his 16-year-old son on the shore of the reservoir.

He said Skyler never made it to shore after their boat capsized while fishing.

The Franklin County Dive Team used sonar technology to locate Skyler’s body. Sheriff Shrum said the area the teen was found in is about 20-feet deep.

Sheriff Shrum said the Tracy City Police Department does not suspect any foul play.
