Topping our news today…

Like the Bradley County Commission last Monday, the Cleveland City Council considered Cleveland State’s Capital campaign funding request of $250,000. The City Council would like to provide funds that go to infrastructure items that the city would typically support such as waste water management, curbs, sidewalks, and street entrances. Cleveland state president Dr. Bill Seymour said he consulted with TBR and THEC officials who confirmed this is possible. The college will prepare a resolution for the city Council to vote on at their next meeting in July.

The Cleveland City Council heard an update Monday from Cleveland City Schools Director Dr. Russell Dyer about a new security system which will be put in place at all city schools beginning in September. The Raptor security system will be able to scan all drivers licenses of visitors who come to all city schools and be able to tell if they are on any sex offender lists, if they’ve been banned from a school, and custody alerts. Dr. Dyer told WCLE News he is grateful for the support of the Cleveland City Council in purchasing this safety equipment for the school system.
