In news today…
On Monday morning, Brittany Cannon, Community and Communications Coordinator with Bradley County Schools, joined us live on Mix 104-1. She announced a new online learning opportunity that is being added in addition to traditional in-person classes and the Bradley County Virtual School. This new online option will add grades K-5 to the current lineup, and will allow students to still be “tied” to their particular school, as opposed to being a student of Bradley County Virtual School if they went that route. There are also a few other small differences between this new online opportunity and the Bradley County Virtual School. More details are forthcoming.
Also in news today…
The Cleveland City Council met on Monday and heard concerns from several members of the public regarding the proposed closure of Magnolia Avenue near the North Cleveland Towers. After comments, it was stated that the intersection in question would not be closed, and that there would still be access to different sides of the Towers building. Public transportation would have a minor change in location for pickup. The decision of closing Magnolia Avenue is for the safety of Lee students crossing the street.
It was also announced that the new Pickle Ball Court opened July 21st at 10AM.
And finally…
The Bradley County Commission met on Monday as well. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis passed out a letter from the state approving the 2020-2021 budget. He also reminded everyone of the four basics during COVID-19 – was hands, stay 6 feet apart, no crowds over 10 people, and to wear a mask when you can.
It was also reported that Bradley County Schools would start on August 5th, and more slots had been opened up for virtual learning, with more information to come this week. There are 45 new teachers starting in the county this year which will help with that situation. All plans are contingent on Governor Lee’s address about education which will be taking place later today.
Further discussion took place on the landfill issues, which are still being addressed.
