From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Larry Bowers reports: The Southeast Tennessee Veterans Home Council is gearing up for a busy year, although the community volunteers will not have a direct impact on the immediate construction of the new state facility in South Cleveland.

The council met in November to select new officers, made some committee appointments, and will meet again at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce offices in The Village Green.

Site preparation and the installation of utilities are currently underway, with the actual construction on four buildings to begin in the near future.

If you’re an air traveler disgruntled by long wait times at the airport security line, Chattanooga Airport is hosting a week-long TSA PreCheck enrollment event.

TSA’s PreCheck service provides faster security screenings for select passengers. Participants don’t have to remove shoes, belts or jackets.

PreCheck passengers also aren’t required to remove laptops and compliant liquids from luggage.

The enrollment event will be held at Chattanooga Airport in the office adjacent to the airport’s info desk between the rotunda and baggage claim.

The event is Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

PreCheck applicants will need to bring proof of identity and U.S citizen documentation, such as a passport or birth certificate and driver’s license.

The application fee is $85 and the process is completed onsite where fingerprints will be taken for a background check.

The Tennessee Department of Safety says the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators Systems reports systems are back up, and they will continue to monitor service continuity and data activity.

A computer outage kept Tennessee from issuing driver licenses Monday.

The Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security says the outage was nationwide. They said there was no ability to process messages that support transactions of driver licenses and motor vehicle titles.

The department said the issue derived from a system outage with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).

And finally…

The Bradley County Commission met Monday and discussed numerous items. One of the hot topics was the continued broadband initiative for underserved areas in the county. Volunteer Energy Cooperative is interested in partnering with the county to help provide broadband services to these underserved areas. This project would be funded through various grants from the state and federal government.

Also discussed was the PIE Project. Currently, the PIE Center is in the process of completing due diligence and wrapping up design development. They hope to begin the process of construction around July 1st.
