State lawmakers have approved a resolution officially designating Tennessee as “The Volunteer State.”

The resolution received unanimous approval from the GOP-controlled House on Monday after receiving the same approval in the GOP-controlled Senate the week before.

Tennessee first became known as “The Volunteer State” during the War of 1812 due to its prominent role of sending 1,500 volunteer soldiers. However, despite the popularity of  the nickname, the resolution’s sponsors say it was never officially adopted into Tennessee’s statutes.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department has made an arrest and recovered more than $20,000 in stolen property after a weekend burglary.

Deputies and detectives with the sheriff’s department received information about the location of around 25 firearms that had been stolen from an apartment in the Spring Creek area.

Officials say the victim reported that someone had broken in and taken 25 guns from the home. On Sunday, a detective received info about where the weapons were, and all the firearms were recovered.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department says during an interview with detectives, the suspect, James William Henderson III, admitted to stealing from the same home back in late July 2019.

Henderson was arrested on numerous charges. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are pending.
