Cleveland Utilities’ Electric Division has had little, if any, luck with plans to renovate a single-phase power transformer which failed recently in East Cleveland.

Electric Division Vice President Bart Borden told the public utility’s board in a recent session that the utility has exhausted all known manufacturers who could possibly have rebuilt the transformer.

“We contacted eight rebuilders, and all stated they cannot rebuild the unit,” Borden said. “Several were eliminated due to the size of the transformer, and the remainder were eliminated due to the construction type of the transformer.”

Borden added that CU’s engineering consultant, Fisher and Arnold, is working on specifications for a new transformer and has met with CU’s Engineering Manager Jimmy Isom. When specifics are completed, the utility will request bids for a new transformer.

Borden’s Electric Division report was among the more detailed issues at the recent board meeting. There was no financial report, since CFO and Vice President Marshall Stinnett does not yet have hard numbers for the conclusion of the fiscal year.

A fugitive from Polk County who was wanted for kidnapping was arrested over the weekend.

The Sheriff’s Office says Daniel Wilcox had several felony warrants and violated his federal parole.

Officials say they received tips that Wilcox was seen in the Old Fort area of the county and was armed.

Deputies found Wilcox and took him into custody.

Wilcox is charged with open container law, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, two counts of theft over $1,000, aggravated kidnapping, resisting stop or arrest, driving on revoked license, and operation without plates.

He is being held in the Polk County jail.

From News Channel 9…

The TWRA has identified Lee MacLellan as the man who drove the boat which killed 48-year-old Neal Gibson III Sunday.

The TWRA’s Matt Majors says Gibson was getting ready to wakeboard from a boat that held a total of four people. They waited for a group of other boaters to pass.

At some point, Majors says Gibson got into the water without anyone else noticing, and when the driver powered up the motor to reposition himself, Gibson was caught in the propeller.

Majors says they do not plan to charge the driver at this point, and says investigators don’t believe alcohol was involved, but the driver did get a blood test, as is standard procedure.
