In news today…

Wednesday was the first day of early voting in Tennessee for the state and federal general election. In Bradley County, tmhe total number of votes cast in the election as of the end of yesterday is 3,546. This total includes nursing home and mail-in ballots. The total number of votes actually cast during early voting yesterday is 2,399. There were 1,000 more voters on the first day of early voting this year than the first day of early voting in 2016. Early voting continues through October 29th, with the polls open today until 6PM. Early voting locations are at Bradley Square Mall in the former Bath and Body works, the Bradley County Election commission office downtown, and the former BB&T Bank building near the south Walmart between Advance Auto Parts and Walgreens. Governor Bill Lee’s office released a statement today following one of the Governor’s security details testing positive for COVID-19:

“Today, a member of the Governor’s Executive Security Detail has tested positive for COVID19. Gov. Lee is feeling well and has tested negative for COVID-19 but out of an abundance of caution, he is quarantining at home with the First Lady until further notice.

Governor’s Office protocol requires masks and social distancing and no staff are believed to be positive at this time.”

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond was informed he had been in direct contact with someone who had just tested positive with COVID-19 according to an HCSO spokesman.

As a safety precaution, Sheriff Hammond immediately visited a local medical facility where he received a rapid response COVID-19 test.

Sheriff Hammond has tested positive and is currently asymptomatic.

Out of an abundance of caution, contact tracing has begun regarding those who have been in contact with the Sheriff, including his family, friends, and coworkers.

Sheriff Hammond said in a news release that he is currently asymptomatic and encourages anyone who may have been in direct contact with him to consult the local health department guidelines.
