Our top story, from WRCB Channel 3 and WSMV…

Police say the man and teenage girl at the center of an Amber Alert are both suspects in the murder of a gas station clerk in west Nashville.

Officers found 28-year-old Daniel Clark and 15-year-old Trinity Quinn near the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Charlotte Pike around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said a truck driver noticed Quinn standing on the side of the road and called police.

Officers swarmed the wooded area with guns drawn, yelling at Clark and Quinn to surrender. They were found in a ditch not too far off the road.

Police said Clark and Quinn, both of Dayton, TN, were taken into custody without incident. Both were taken to the West Precinct for questioning.

Metro police said both Clark and Quinn have given statements and will be charged with criminal homicide, especially aggravated robbery and attempted auto theft.

Investigators searched a backpack belonging to the suspects and said they found a gun inside.

Police are calling Quinn a suspect because they believe she had ample time to get away during the shooting but chose to flee with Clark instead.

Following a morning where the courtroom was filled with hundreds of people, an eight-woman, six-man jury (including alternates) was selected Tuesday morning in the first-degree murder trial of Jody Hughes.

The jury was eventually seated just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, then opening statements by the prosecution and defense were heard. Tenth Judicial District Assistant Attorney General Dallas Scott presented the state’s case against Hughes, while Cleveland attorney Wilton Marble represented the defendant.

Scott detailed the case against Hughes, going into details of the alleged homicide of Tyler Worth which reportedly occurred around Oct. 11, 2015.

Testimony began in the case Wednesday morning, and the judge told jurors that there is no guarantee it will be completed by Saturday, so court might be held that day. Two weeks had been set aside for the trial, and it was stated Monday that the case could last at least six to seven days, and possibly more.

The 14-member jury includes two alternate jurors who will be selected after both sides complete their cases. The alternates will not take part in the deliberations at that point, but are seated with other jurors throughout the trial as a safety measure.

The jurors will not be sequestered, but were instructed by Doneghy not to have any contact with media reports of the case, do any private investigating on their own such as traveling to sites of the alleged crime, and not to speak to each other or other family members or friends about the details they are hearing during the testimonies.

Doneghy said that the trial will continue until 6 to 6:30 p.m. each day until completed.
