A massive athletic facility is taking shape on the north end of Parker Street, built by Lee University and involving both city and county governments.
The seven-acre site includes a NCAA-certified oval for track and field, with an artificial turf field large enough for soccer, football, and lacrosse inside the eight-lane track. There will also be small buildings for concession stands, public bathrooms, locker rooms for athletes, and storage facilities. A small grandstand will be built into the west side of the oval, and a separate grass field for discus, shot put, hammer, and javelin. A paved parking lot and lighting will complete the complex.
The project has been underway since last fall, according to Lee president Dr. Paul Conn, and is scheduled to be complete and ready for athletes during the fall semester. The facility will also be used by the Lee University intramural sports program, with an all-weather surface to be shared by men’s and women’s rugby.
The track itself is a poured-in-place specialty item which will be installed after the infield turf is complete.

Bradley County Schools will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the PIE Innovation Center on Tuesday, August 4 th . The ceremony will be conducted with an abundance of caution while following all state guidelines. There will be no more than 50 people in attendance and the event will be live-streamed for all of those interested. We are proud to announce Governor Bill Lee, who has supported the initiative since the beginning, will be speaking. Also in attendance will be our state legislators, Mayor Gary Davis, county commissioners, and Bradley County School Board Members.
This unprecedented center will be the first of its kind in Tennessee. The PIE Innovation Center will incorporate alternative education programming and provide an original and creative approach to Advanced Manufacturing, engineering technologies, and technical skill classes through STEM and Career and Technical Education (formerly Vocational Education) high school programs, engage business and industry in collaborative training partnerships and retail space with work-based learning opportunities for students, and virtual educational coursework and service-learning.
The event will be live-streamed from Mix 104.1 (Mix Facebook, Mix 104.1 WCLE, and radio) along with Bradley County Schools Facebook Live.

Kaitlin Gebby reports: Bradley County Schools will off er a short-term online learning option for students who are not yet comfortable with returning to in-person learning or committing to a full year of online school.
School-Connected Online Learning by Bradley County Schools was announced via social media Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the announcement, online learning would only take place when an individual is quarantined at home, during a district-wide shutdown or for those enrolled in the Bradley County Virtual School. However, students enrolled in the virtual school are no longer students of their home school, and are committed to a full year of learning online.
The district is promoting the short term School-Connected program as a way for students to remain a student of their individual school while turning in work remotely.
The application deadline for the School-Connected program is today, at 5 p.m., giving parents only about 48 hours from the time the application was made available.
