Out of an abundance of caution, care and concern for our community, the City of Cleveland, Cleveland Ford and Mt Olive have decided to postpone Saturday’s firework show due to the apparent increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases in our area. Currently, they are considering Labor Day weekend as a possibility, and when a decision has been made, will notify the community.

Tim Siniard reports: The federal program that provides an additional $600 in benefits to those affected by layoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic will end next month.

The benefit was part of the federal government’s CARES Act. In accordance with the legislation’s guidelines, Tennessee will discontinue paying the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation the week ending July 25.

The program provided $600 per week in federal assistance, in addition to benefits from other unemployment insurance programs, including Tennessee Unemployment Compensation and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

Volkswagen officials confirm more than two dozen cases of COVID-19 at the Chattanooga plant since March.

VW spokesperson says Amanda Plecas says 26 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since March 12.

Plecas says anyone who tests positive is placed on medical leave and given the recommendation to quarantine for 14 days.

Plecas says badge access is deactivated and no one can return to the plant until they are given medical clearance.
