From NewsChannel 9…

The case of a man accused of taking justice into his own hands goes to trial.

Police say Mark Truechet shot and killed an unarmed fugitive at the Bradley County Landfill in September of 2016.

That suspect had just been involved in a high speed chase that spanned three counties.

Prosecutors say Treuchet set out to kill Jeremy Headley that day, however.

They say they have a picture to prove it.

The witness who took it cried testifying about what it shows. In it, Karen Lynch says you can see Treuchet standing over Headley’s body.

Witnesses say police told them Headley was armed and dangerous that day.

In the time workers waited on officers to search the area, many testified they heard Treuchet talking tough.

Witnesses said Treuchet wasn’t the only one acting tough and making statements about taking Headley down before the shooting, though. They said it was fairly normal construction worker talk.

That’s why the defense argues this was not a premeditated murder.

Attorneys say Treuchet was protecting himself and other landfill workers.

Witnesses also testified that Treuchet did try to help Headley after he shot him.

Tennessee just beat out Louisiana for a new state title: highest sales tax in the U.S.

Tennessee has a combined state and local sales tax of 9.46 percent, according to a new report from the Tax Foundation, an ‘independent tax policy nonprofit’. Louisiana has a combined rate of 9.45 percent.

Louisiana’s statewide rate fell from 5 percent to 4.45 percent on July 1 when state lawmakers decided not to extend a portion of an expiring sales tax. There was also a small reduction in local Louisiana rates, according to the report, leading to the change in order.
