From WRCB Channel 3…

The hottest day of the summer Tuesday pushed up electricity use in the Tennessee Valley to the highest peak in August in more than seven years.

TVA said Tuesday’s peak demand for power reached 29,568 megawatts at 4 p.m., when heat indexes across much of the seven-state TVA region topped 100 degrees, although the average temperature across the Tennessee Valley reached only 94 degrees Fahrenheit due to scattered storms across the Valley Tuesday afternoon and evening.

In Chattanooga, the high reached 99 degrees Fahrenheit, with the heat index topping 109, according to WRCB-TV Channel 3 Chief Meteorologist Paul Barys.

From NewsChannel 9…

Workers at the Walmart Supercenter on Rhea County Highway in Dayton were forced to evacuate the store early Wednesday morning after the store filled with dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide (CO).

One woman on the scene complained of dizziness to firefighters, but refused medical treatment.

Dayton Fire Chief Charles Suttles tells NewsChannel 9 the incident happened at about 4 a.m.

Chief Suttles says crews were using propane-powered sanders to clean the floor. He says investigators believe the machine malfunctioned, raising CO levels to 250 parts per million. Chief Suttles says that’s not enough to be deadly, but it would be enough to cause headaches, dizziness and nausea.

As of 11 a.m., Chief Suttles said CO levels were 0 parts per million, and the store was safe to enter. The store reopened for business as usual.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Autumn Hughes reports: Proposed traffic studies and the need for more east-west connectors were among the items of discussion Tuesday for the Bradley County Commission’s Road Committee.

Barker Lane resident Jack Keith said Mouse Creek Road is “a mess” and asked if the Road Committee will look at “a spur” or connector to Highway 11 or Frontage Road.

Road Committee Chairman Kevin Raper said he went to the Cleveland City Council’s town hall meeting where Mouse Creek Road was discussed; city leaders noted it is not financially feasible to widen the road.

Sandra Knight, Bradley County’s Road Superintendent, said in her 23 years here, there have been several traffic studies, and all have shown the need for more east-west connector roads, like Keith mentioned.
