From NewsChannel 9: A bill to take away community oversight boards (COB) passed through the Senate Thursday.

The Senators who sponsored SB 0591 are Sen. Mark Pody (R-Lebanon), Sen. Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma), Sen. Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald).

The bill summary defines COBS as follows:

“Present law defines “community oversight board” as a board established by a local government to investigate or oversee investigation into possible law enforcement officer misconduct or the operations of an agency employing a law enforcement officer.”

Instead of COBS, the bill allows cities to generate “police advisory and review committees.”

The bill now heads to Governor Lee’s desk.
