From News Channel 9: A Bradley County woman who was badly hurt in a go-kart accident with her 1-year-old girl will soon be taken off life support, according to the father of the child.

On Thursday, doctors planned to sew back on 3 fingers the girl lost on one of her hands.

The accident happened Tuesday night in the driveway of a home on Weatherly Switch Trail.

WTVC spoke with the 1-year-old girl’s father, Aaron Burger, who says the 36-year-old Kelly Miller ‘gave her own life’ so her child could live.

While Miller suffered injuries that may ultimately claim her life, her daughter only lost 3 fingers.

The father said the woman was heading down the driveway in the go-kart with her baby in her arms when she hit a dip in the pavement and skidded out of control.

One of the couple’s other children ran next door to get help.

“He said, ‘David, come here. The baby lost its fingers, it’s bleeding.’ I said, ‘what?'”

Neighbor David Pirkle says he saw the immediate aftermath of the accident, helped clean the area, and called authorities.

Pirkle says it’s an image he can’t get out of his head…

“That’s all I see. You know, I couldn’t even hardly sleep that night because she’s like a daughter to me.”

Pirkle says he’s keeping the go-kart behind a grill in his yard, so that it doesn’t have to sit in the family’s yard as a reminder of the tragedy.

“It really hurt, because I’ve known the girl for over 8 to 10 years. She was a good girl, and I’m gonna miss her.”

Burger says is on life-support, and the family is planning to say their goodbyes.

He tells us he plans to destroy the go-kart.
