SPCA of Bradley County over capacity

Last week, the SPCA of Bradley County’s Board of Directors heard the recent animal statistics and learned the shelter is over capacity for the humane housing of Cub dogs. Melissa Smith, the Director at the Bradley County SPCA said at the meeting, “We have six adult dogs living in pop-up kennels. I know that it’s a national crisis, so I just want to make you aware that we are trying to do everything that we can to move these animals, but they’re coming in at a far greater rate than they are being adopted”.

As of now, there are 36 dogs at the SPCA, including six in pop-up kennels, and there are three cats.

The humane maximum for dogs at the center is 25, Smith explained.

Smith also said the shelter has reduced the fees on puppy adoptions, posted animals currently available on Facebook, and partnered with the Cleveland Daily Banner to try to move animals to homes.

If you or someone you know is looking to adopt a pet, you can visit the SPCA of Bradley County at 1570 Johnson BLVD SE or call 423-790-1915 Tuesday- Saturday Noon-5 PM.
