Cleveland State received approval on Thursday from the State Building Commission to move forward with the design plans for its new Health and Science Building, as well as the renovation of the Mary T. Barker Humanities Building.
This will be the first new building for Cleveland State in more than 40 years.
The new building will include nursing, emt and medical assistant skills and simulation labs, state-of-the-art biology and microbiology labs, five general classrooms, three conference rooms, student study and collaboration space, faculty offices and 2,400 square feet of multi-function space for classes and events.

Cleveland State Community College received word that it was granted continuing accreditation for its associate nursing degree program.
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) visited the college during the fall of 2018. The ACEN Board met in March of this year and affirmed continuing accreditation finding the program in compliance with all accreditation standards and criteria reviewed during the onsite visit which included both a review of all six standards and a focused review of a revised curriculum. The board scheduled the next onsite accreditation review for fall 2026.

Tim Siniard reports: The city’s long-awaited master plan will be unveiled today during the Cleveland City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting at the Municipal Building.
The meeting will be held at 3 p.m., following the City Council’s 1 p.m. work session.
In what will be a busy agenda, the City Council during its work session will discuss a recent Tennessee Supreme Court decision ruling allowing the city of Cleveland not to share liquor-by-the-drink proceeds with the Bradley County School System. In addition, during its 3 p.m. session, the Council will vote on the Fiscal Year 2020 budget.
Under new business, the Council will vote on a motion to approve the master plan during its 3 p.m. session.
The plan, developed by WSP, U.S.A., the consultant firm hired by the Cleveland City Council, will outline a public and private investment vision for redevelopment in the city’s historic downtown, including major streetscape projects, public spaces, a sports complex, parking garages, a boutique hotel and apartments.
