In news today…

Volkswagen announced this week it achieved a key production milestone at its Chattanooga, Tennessee assembly plant with the completion of its one-millionth vehicle, an Aurora Red Metallic 2020 Volkswagen Passat R-Line.

The Volkswagen Chattanooga plant has been producing Passat vehicles since 2011. Ground was broken in 2009 for what was to become the world’s first LEED-Platinum certified manufacturing facility. Since, Volkswagen Chattanooga has grown to employ approximately 3,800 people, produced more than 700,000 Passat vehicles, 100,000 Atlas vehicles, and recently started production of the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport and the facelifted 2021 Atlas. In that time, Chattanooga-assembled vehicles have been exported to Canada, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, and the Middle East.

Volkswagen Chattanooga will also be Volkswagen’s North American base for manufacturing electric vehicles, representing an approximately $800 million investment, starting in 2022. The expansion to enable U.S. production of long-range EVs began in November 2019.

From NewsChannel 9…

Chattanooga Police confirm to NewsChannel 9 a wanted murder suspect from Bedford County, Virginia was captured in Chattanooga Saturday night.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by NewsChannel 9, Dalton Holbrook from Indiana was charged with two counts of Theft of Property, Criminal Impersonation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a burglary tool.

The affidavit says Holbrook was asleep in what was found to be a stolen car from Virginia with a gun on his lap at a Hixson Pike gas station.

Once officers arrived they found the gun was stolen from Seveirville, Tenn. along with drug paraphernalia , and a tool described to break into vehicles.

Police then asked Holbrook for his information, but gave a fake last name. He was then transported to the jail and fingerprinted to find his identity.

Chattanooga Police found, through a family member, his correct information. With that, officers found a warrant for Holbrook out of Bedford County, Va. for murder.

Officials say Holbrook will be proccessed for the charges here in Chattanooga and will turned over to Bedford County officials afterward.

Holbrook faces charges in Bedford County, Va. including grand larceny and second-degree murder.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Tim Siniard reports: Cleveland Summit residents will soon be packing up and moving into brand new digs this fall.

Their new home, Cleveland Court, will be a far cry from their present, cramped 200 to 250 square-foot apartments, located within the former Cherokee Hotel, that have outdated plumbing and electrical systems.

The facility will offer 70 efficiency units and eight single-bedroom units. Each is about twice the size of the present units at the old facility and feature fully equipped kitchens.

Groundbreaking for the $7.1-million two-story, 78-unit facility, located at 191 Cedar Lane S.W. off South Lee Highway, took place last year.

Upon its completion, Hodges said the residents will be able to move in within a week or two.
