NTSB and FAA officials are continuing their investigation into a deadly plane crash in Murray County, Georgia. Sunday, officials looked at debris that was scattered around homes and in fields.

Investigators said a twin engine Piper PA 23 “broke up” mid-air. The plane seats 5 people. Four people died in the crash, their identities are not being released right now. Investigators say there could be another person.

Clothes, pieces of the plane, and debris were scattered across the area of Piney Hills Drive and neighboring streets. One engine from the plane is still missing. The plane’s flight log was located in one residence’s back yard. NTSB investigators said they will use that flight log to learn more about the pilot and maintenance history of the plane. NTSB officials said the investigation will continue for a few days. If anyone finds debris they believe is from the crash in their yard, they are asked NOT to touch it and to immediately call the Murray County Sheriff’s Office.

A Cleveland attorney who had plans to open an office in Athens saw his dream go up in smoke early Saturday. Jim Logan said he will rebuild and will eventually have the office in “The Friendly City.” It will just take some time.

Logan’s building was the most heavily damaged in the Saturday morning fire in Athens. The 15 North Jackson St. building was the site of Larry Cantrell and Associates law office and reports were Logan had planned to open his office there in two weeks.

The fire was first reported around 6 a.m. Saturday. As of Saturday, no cause of the blaze had been determined. The other businesses that sustained smoke and possibly water damage were Greeks Bearing Gifts, Johnson Home Furnishings and the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.

None of these buildings were said to have been damaged by actual flames.

Athens Mayor Chuck Burris said 11 different fire departments assisted in putting out the fire. Both the Cleveland Fire Department and Bradley County Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.

The rains Saturday afternoon into the evening were not unexpected, but the severity may have been.

The National Weather Service said Southeast Tennessee received only 1.40 inches of rain, but most of the rain that fell came down in a short amount of time. The rain began about 2:30 p.m. and continued throughout the rest of the afternoon.

Several roads around town flooded, including Highway 64 east of Durkee Road, Inman Street at the railroad underpass, and Blythe Ferry Road near the North Ocoee Street intersection.

Cleveland Utilities reported several outages due to fallen trees, including an outage in the Hunter’s Run area of Mouse Creek Road around 3:20PM, and an outage near Spring Place Road and Armstrong Road around 4:15PM.

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports…

Three conspirators charged with tampering with evidence in the Tyler Worth homicide had their status hearings delayed in Bradley County Criminal Court Friday.

The group — R.L. Jerger, Gus Roy Hawkins and Ashley Rutledge — will now go before Judge Sandra Donaghy on Sept. 15, according to court records.

The trio are accused of being present when Worth was allegedly shot by Jody Hughes. The incident reportedly occurred on Oct. 11, 2015.

The three were to have status hearings, that would lead to trials being set, on Friday. However, a request to delay those proceedings was granted, and now the three are to learn their status in mid-September.

Information heard in testimony during Hughes’ trial that Rutledge is pregnant. Court observers Friday said that was one of the reasons the status hearing for the three was moved. She reportedly asked to have her child before continuing.
