Topping our news today…

At approximately 3:10 p.m Saturday, Bradley County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies recognized a wanted fugitive driving a blue Dodge truck. The male failed to stop when a traffic stop was initiated, which led to a brief pursuit on I-75. When the male attempted to drive in the median, deputies were able to get the vehicle stopped at the 32 mile marker of I-75 southbound.

Travis Grissom was arrested, who is currently on the agency’s “Top 10 Most Wanted” list, and wanted for Theft over $2,500, Felony Evading Arrest, and Tampering with a Vehicle Tag. Grissom may be facing additional criminal charges related to the incident on Saturday.

From the Chattanooga Times Free Press…

In one epic April weekend, Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson threatened a group of inmates for talking trash about his bail-bondsman wife; embroiled more than a dozen law officers in a multistate manhunt for one of her bail skips; and pulled a gun on a motorist in Georgia, where he has no authority — all with his wife and another bondsman riding along in his official sheriff’s vehicle.

The episode lends weight to complaints from the Bradley County bail bonding community of a thumb on the scales in favor of the sheriff’s wife, Tenille Watson. It also echoesallegations of wrongdoing by Sheriff Watson forwarded last year to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.\\

Meanwhile, local attorneys asked to review documents and videos related to Watson’s Easter weekend activities say he could have opened himself up to liability ranging from civil rights violations to kidnapping and aggravated assault.

From WRCB Channel 3…

Two deadly crashes happened within an hour of each other in the Tennessee Valley on Saturday, claiming the lives of two people.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the first one happened just before 5:00 a.m. on Shiloh Road in Meigs County.

A preliminary report shows 47-year-old Melvin McCoy from Decatur was driving north on Shiloh Road on a motorcycle when he ran off the road and hit a tree head-on. State troopers said the driver landed on a barbed wire fence and the impact forced his helmet off.

The other crash happened an hour later on Old Lower River Road Northwest in Bradley County.

The THP said 20-year-old Michael Schirer from Georgetown was driving west on that road when he lost control, went off the road, spun around, and hit a tree. Investigators said he was killed on impact.

The report said he was wearing a seat belt.
