Mix 104-1 has learned from official social media that Bradley County Schools has altered its re-entry plan to include a staggered start for its middle and high schools in August.
Scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 5, Bradley County Schools proposed a back-to-school plan in which all students returned on the same day, adding a series of precautions like limiting hallway traffic and creating assigned seating on buses.
The county district is not checking student temperatures at the door and only requesting masks, not requiring them. Updating their original proposal, the district will now alternate days students attend school for the first week, starting on Aug. 5. Students’ first full day with all classmates will be Aug. 17.
Students with the last names A through K will attend school in-person Friday, Aug, 7, Tuesday, Aug. 11, and Thursday, Aug. 13. Students with the last names L through Z will attend school Monday, Aug. 10, Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 14, because all students return for a full day together the following Monday.
Director of Schools Dr. Linda Cash said the decision came at the recommendation of middle and high school principals to the Bradley County Schools Task Force to do a staggered start.

In a video message posted on Westmore Church of God’s social media page, Lead Pastor Kelvin Page has announced the deaths of two church members as a result of COVID-19.
The two men, who may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus during church services last month, died last week.
In addition, after the video was posted, the deaths of two additional church members were confirmed by Westmore Executive Pastor Daniel Clanton. However, their identities were not released.
The two church members named in Page’s video, were Frank Cunningham, 73, who died on July 9, and Dr. Jimmy Welch Bilbo, 89, who died on July 10.
Page mourned their passing.
Page said that although the church had exercised due diligence to prevent the spread of the virus, “It still slipped in.”
The total number of cases allegedly connected to the church have not been disclosed.

Tim Siniard reports: Tennova-Cleveland has admitted and treated 82 patients for COVID-19, since the first case was announced by the Bradley County Health Department in late March, with 23 individuals currently undergoing hospitalization.
Of the total amount of patients treated at its 351-bed facility, 51 have been discharged as of Friday. To date, there have been eight fatalities; however, Tennova officials stressed not all those were Bradley County residents. One death was a Hamilton County resident as confirmed by Tennova in April.
As of Saturday, seven Bradley County individuals have died as a result of the virus, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. It has not been determined where each of the deaths occurred.
Tennova treats patients from surrounding counties, including Polk County, McMinn County and Meigs County, as well as portions of North Georgia.
