Life Care Centers of America’s Eastern Division, based out of Life Care’s office on Keith Street, recently presented its Seventh Annual Business Development Awards of Excellence.

On Dec. 5, the division bestowed honors on one skilled nursing and rehab facility per each of its five regions. The awards recognize facilities for innovative programs in serving their communities.

Life Care Center of Sparta earned the overall, division-wide Business Development Award. The facility was nominated for its Your Care, Your Choice campaign educating the public that they can choose their rehab provider.

Life Care also presented a new award this year, the Liaison Achievement Award, which was given to Rhonda Abernathy, liaison at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for spearheading a new business relationship in the area.

The first church security training seminar in 2018, which will be open to all faith based, civic, and non-profit organizations looking to learn more about protecting those who attend their gatherings, has been scheduled.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is continuing last year’s security and safety trainings to ensure worship services and public meetings remain safe, while also creating a forum for attendees to discuss any safety issues recognized at their facility.

On Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, the training will be held at Waterville Baptist Church, located at 4555 Dalton Pike. The training will begin at 6 p.m. and last until 8 p.m.

Special Agent Dewey Woody from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security will be the first presenter, who will present “Active Shooter Preparedness.” This presentation will provide products, tools, and resources to help prepare and respond to an active shooter incident.

George Campbell, who is currently an instructor within the Training Division at Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, will be the second presenter. Campbell retired from the Cleveland Police Department in 2010 and has successfully completed various specialized certification trainings during his 33 years in law-enforcement.

The training is free and open to all organizations in the city and county, but officials are asking for small groups of decision makers from each organization since space is limited.

Anybody needing more information about the training is encouraged to contact Director James Bradford at jbradford@bradleycountytn.gov or 423-728-7300.

Instead of an alarm clock, some people woke up to a small earthquake Sunday morning.

It happened just before 5:00 am.

At 4:53 AM Sunday morning, a small 2.4 magnitude earthquake woke several residents in downtown Chattanooga and in East Ridge.  The earthquake epicenter occurred in Indian Springs, GA, just south of Graysville. Indian Springs is approximately 5 miles from East Ridge, and 12.6 miles from Chattanooga. No damage has been reported.

To put that into perspective, an earthquake that causes damage usually has a magnitude above 4 or 5, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
