From NewsChannel 9…

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office says a 5-year-old girl is recovering after being shot with an arrow to her head.

Officials say it happened at 1499 Highway 58 South. Deputies received the call around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Sheriff Jackie Melton says the girl’s brother had a crossbow that had an arrow in it. He aimed it at the wall and accidentally pulled the trigger.

Melton says the little girl was transported to Tennova Healthcare in Cleveland. He says she was then transported to the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger for surgery.

Officials say the bow did not penetrate all the way through the little girl’s head. They say she is alert and talking.

Right now, the name of the girl is not being released.

Melton says they will hand the report over to the District Attorney’s office.
