Bradley County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a stabbing. They said it happened on Craigmiles Street NE just before 11:00 p.m Saturday night.

Deputies said the person who was stabbed is expected to be okay.

Investigators told Channel 3 it was an argument that escalated to a stabbing.

The sheriff’s office said the victim chose not to press charges against the suspect. The victim also refused to be taken to a hospital, but was treated at the scene.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a two car crash that killed two people in McMinn County.

The crash happened just before 3 am Sunday morning on Hwy 411 North in Etowah.

McMinn County deputies who were first on the scene said two cars crashed and caught fire.

EMS crews found two people dead on arrival. There were no other reported injuries.

WRCB Channel 3 reports…

Athens police are investigating a shooting at a local motel Sunday morning.

It happened at Athens Lodge off Exit 52 around 6:15 a.m.

The police report says the 56-year-old motel clerk. whose name has not been released, was taking a smoke break outside of the motel when he was approached by two males and a female, who began talking to the clerk.

The reports says as the clerk started to walk back inside one of the suspects grabbed him and pulled a handgun. The gun fired as the clerk tried to knock it down, hitting the clerk in the leg.

The report says the clerk managed to lock the suspects outside of the motel and called 911.

The suspects ran from the scene. One of the suspects is described as a black male in his early to mid 20s.

The clerk was taken to Athens Regional Hospital  for treatment. Athens police Detective Fred Schultz says the incident appears to be a failed robbery attempt. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Bradley County Republican Party held their annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday at Cleveland High School. A straw poll for the Gubernatorial race was held. Middle Tennessee businessman Bill Lee won the poll by nearly 30 votes over Randy Boyd.
