A search was made for Lipps in that area Sunday afternoon. From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Cleveland State Community College will be hosting a Sexual Assault Awareness event on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center Auditorium.

Attendees will have the opportunity to watch a video about sexual assault and take the “It’s On Us” pledge. This pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault — to promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution.

There will be three guest speakers — Mike Hodges, campus police chief; Tori Tucker, sexual assault program manager of the Family Violence Program; and Cleveland City Police Officer Jennifer Samples.

There will be a sexual assault and domestic violence resource table set up in the CSCC Library, and the Social Work Club will have a campus-wide display of teal ribbons (teal is the color for sexual assault awareness month) that will represent the local number of reported sexual assaults and the estimated unreported number of sexual assaults.

The community is invited to attend this event.

For more information on the upcoming sexual assault event, contact Juliann Mathis at (423) 473-2427.

From the Chattanooga Times Free Press…

Bradley County officials are moving ahead with plans to reuse an old factory for an education, job training and retail site which some say is unlike anything in Tennessee.

Plans are to turn the 290,000-square-foot former American Uniform Co. plant off North Parker Street into a regional site where local companies can set up production to train workers, said Denise Rice, who directs the Tennessee Manufacturers Association.

Plans are to fix up the former plant and bring Bradley’s alternative high school to the location, said Kyle Page, the school’s principal and the project manager for the proposal.

Also, STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) classes are slated to be offered, along with the industry training sites with an aim toward workforce development. In addition, there could be retail locations, such as a bank branch and restaurants, set up at the facility, according to officials.

Some of the space could be available to expand Cleveland’s small business incubator, which now has a waiting list. Cleveland State Community College also may be interested in having an off-campus location there.

Some of the more than a half-dozen business people at a walk-through of the old plant last week seemed interested.
