Cleveland police have arrested a man who is accused of impersonating an officer on Monday night.

Cleveland police spokesperson Sgt. Evie West says Jorell Brackett was wearing a gun, fake badge and driving a white Ford Crown Vic with flashing lights in the front windshield, when he stopped a driver Monday night on Greenwood Avenue for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Sgt. West says the victim gave his license to Brackett and then called 911 once Brackett walked back to his vehicle.

Cleveland police responded to the scene, finding a flashlight, taser, two sets of handcuffs, badge, and a lock picking kit.

All of the items were seized along with Brackett’s vehicle.

Brackett was taken into custody and booked at the Bradley County Justice Center.

He is charged with Criminal Impersonation.

According to Sgt. West, the Cleveland Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit is comprised of officers who may be in plain clothes and drive unmarked vehicles. While these police officers may not look like uniformed officers, they possess department issued gear and identification that can be produced at any time. Another way to verify the identification of an officer is to call 9-1-1 or the non-emergency number at 423-476-7511, to verify the legitimacy of the officer and/or traffic stop

Police were called to the area of the McMinn soccer complex just before 1:00 p.m.

When they got there, a 12-year-old girl reported that she believed a man tried to abduct her.

She said she was in the bathrooms near the edge of the field when a man came from the back side and approached her.

The child told police she ran from the man when he tried to grab her.

Police say the suspect is a white male who is about 40-50 years old. He was wearing a brown raincoat and black shoes.

A different student also reported seeing the man. He gave a similar description, adding the man was wearing a blue cap with a yellow or gold “C” on it.
