Dalton Police announced Tuesday that they’ve arrested 26-year-old Devon R. Wheeler of Chattanooga in connection with Rashad Goldston’s murder.
Police say officers arrested Wheeler early Tuesday at a motel in Smyrna, Georgia without incident.
Wheeler is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
DPD spokesman Bruce Frazier says the killing happened early Sunday morning in the parking lot outside of the Oyster Pub bar at 933 Market Street in Dalton.
Investigators believe that some sort of dispute happened inside of the bar between the victim Goldston and Devon Wheeler’s girlfriend which led to a disturbance.
Frazier says the disturbance continued later in the parking lot, and at approximately 2:30 am the fight escalated to Wheeler firing several shots into the gray Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Goldston.
Frazier says Goldston was hit by one of the gunshots in the back. Goldston attempted to drive away from the scene but crashed a short distance away, flipping the vehicle onto its side in front of the Dollar Tree store in the same parking lot. He later died at the hospital.
Wheeler was in the Cobb County jail, and was expected to be extradited to Whitfield County later on Tuesday.

34 year old Amber Eichner was last seen in Genoa, Ohio, near Toledo, two weeks ago.
She is supposed to have custody of her four kids, but they were dropped off at her husband’s relatives in Cleveland, Tennessee a week later.
Family members say her cell phone was last pinged in the Cleveland area on Friday.
Amber Eichner is 5′10″, weighs 160 pounds, with blonde hair and blue/green eyes.
She may be in one of two vehicles… a 2002 red crew-cab Dodge Dakota pickup with Ohio tags or a 1995 green Chevy Suburban with Tennessee tags 2S1-4H7.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee declared Tuesday that COVID-19 is no longer a statewide public health crisis, saying he is removing the option for most local governments to mandate masks in public and urging a few big counties with restrictions like mask requirements to remove them on their own by Memorial Day.
The Republican’s message comes as the state faces a public more hesitant of the COVID-19 vaccine than the rest of the country as a whole. Tennessee sits in the bottom three for its percentage of adults with at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, at 42.8%, compared to the national rate of 53.9%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lee said a marketing campaign to promote the new vaccines is coming soon, but he said it’s not underway yet because the vaccine has just become widely available in recent weeks.
The governor, who is up for reelection next year, said his attention is now turning to helping the economy recover. And as for COVID-19, he said “we have to learn to live with it just like we do any risk.”
Tennessee joins a number of states peeling away their remaining COVID-19 restrictions. At least six states — Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota and Texas — have lifted mask mandates, though some states never implemented them. In Texas, businesses reopened at 100% capacity last month.
