From WRCB Channel 3…

Voters in Chattanooga will head to the polls today to elect a new mayor and city council.

There are 15 candidates in the race for mayor and 21 running for city council. Only those living inside city limits will be able to cast a ballot.

Many cast their ballots during early voting and surpassed turnout since the last time the positions were up for grabs.

While this time around might not be as big as the 2020 elections, all of the same policies and procedures would be followed and they would recruit people to work the polling locations.

If voters feel like they have been potentially exposed to COVID-19,  they are asked to call the Hamilton County Election Commission at 423-209-8683 to set an appointment instead of going into a crowded polling place.

The Cleveland City Schools Board of Education met on Monday, covering several items. During discussion of the strategic plan focus, an employee bonus proposal was made directing a total of $600,653 to employee bonuses. This money comes from state funding and ESSR funds. All employees would receive a bonus, and funding is expected to be approved around April. An update from the COVID-19 task force yielded that about 50% of teachers went last weekend to be vaccinated. This does not include teachers who were vaccinated through programs other than the one offered by the school system. Therefore, it is unknown the total number of teachers who have received a vaccination. Summer camps will be held at Ross, Mayfield, and Blythe-Bower for Elementary; Cleveland Middle School for Middle School. An update was also given on school safety, including funding for SROs, active shooter training, intercom systems, maintenance of security camera systems, road signs, and emergency radios for administrative staff.

And finally…

The Bradley County Commission also met Monday covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis reported that installation was complete on the new HVAC system for the sheriff’s office. He expressed his desire to continue the agreement for another year. A vote passed 14-0 to support Sheriff Lawson’s continued use of Amerimed. Also, Dr. Jeff Lovinggood was nominated as the new 7th District school board member, replacing Mr. Jerry Frazier who passed away. There were two applicants, but only Dr. Lovinggood attended the meeting. The other applicant has recently received the COVID-19 vaccine and was advised to not be out in public.
