The last few months, National Beta members from Cleveland Middle have been working hard to prepare their entries for the National Beta Convention. In June, they were able to celebrate that hard work when announced as winners of the following competitions:

  • 1st Place in 7th Grade Academic Science Test
  • 5th Place Club award in 2-Dimensional Design
  • 9th Place in Painting
  • 10th Place in 6th Grade Academic Science Test
  • Leadership Summit Teams: Lead Outside the Box placed 9th and Service Snapshot placed 4th Nation-wide.

The National Convention, held in Orlando, FL, provided all students the opportunity to compete at their comfort level, virtually or on-site. Over 13,000 Junior Beta (grades 4-8) students were able to represent their schools in the first National Beta Hybrid Convention.

July 30th through August 1st is the annual tax-free weekend on school supplies in Tennessee.

But for the first time ever, there will be no tax on gun safes and gun safety equipment. Governor Bill Lee signed the law into effect that begins in July and lasts an entire year.

The discount will take nearly ten percent off full retail items at the register.

The tax free bill was signed into effect the same time Governor Lee signed the new permitless carry bill.

Also for the first time ever, there will be no tax on food from grocery stores and take out from July 30th until August 5th.

CHI Memorial officials say they are continuing in talks with BlueCross, but as of now no agreement has been reached on a new contract.

BlueCross has sent out letters saying that as of Sept. 8 that CHI Memorial facilities may no longer be part of their network.

CHI Memorial officials said on Monday, “We have been negotiating in good faith with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to continue our participation in BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s network.  We have been unable to reach agreement on fair and equitable reimbursement terms.  We plan to continue negotiations, but if we are unable to reach an agreement, on Sept.8, 2021, all CHI Memorial facilities, physicians and services will be considered out-of-network with BCBST.”
