In news today…

On July 27th, a homeowner interrupted a man stealing tools and other items from his storage building near Leadmine Valley Rd in Bradley County, TN in the middle of the afternoon. The homeowner held the man until Bradley County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to investigate. The man was identified as Robert Pergram of Huntsville, Tn. Patrol Deputies discovered stolen items belonging to the homeowner valued at approximately $620 in the bed of a Red Ford Ranger truck driven by Pergram. The items were returned to the homeowner. 

Upon further investigation Patrol Deputies discovered that Pergram was armed with a handgun and was wanted in Kentucky for Sell/Delivery of Amphetamines. Deputies also found Pergram in possession of a catalytic converter, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition. 

Robert Pergram was arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft Under $1000, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Violation of an Order of Protection, Illegal Possession of a Catalytic Converter, Simple Possession of Marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Misuse of Vehicle Registration, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

On Monday, the Tennessee Department of Education released the 2020-21 Spring Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) state-level results.

These results include exams in English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science and social studies.

The Department of Education says that pandemic-related disruptions to education led to declines in student academic proficiency in the state, across all subjects and grade bands, as expected.

The department also credited educators with mitigating the declines.

Tim Siniard reports: Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity are working together to build better houses with climate change and energy efficiency in mind.

Earlier in July, Whirlpool announced Habitat for Humanity’s “BuildBetter with Whirlpool” initiative, an expansion of Habitat’s existing BuildBetter program that will deliver more than 250 climate-resilient and energy-efficient homes to hundreds of Americans in need of affordable housing over the next three years.

Through House + Home, Whirlpool will support Habitat for Humanity to construct homes designed to better withstand storm winds, natural disasters and other severe weather events that are intensifying.

The initiative is the centerpiece of Whirlpool Corporation’s 21-year, nearly $130 million renewed relationship with Habitat.

The Bradley County Commission met on Monday covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis gave an update on COVID-19, indicating there were 300 active cases in Bradley County. During the meeting, Terry Forshee was re-appointed to the 911 board. Also, the time table for appointing a new 7th District constable is September 7th. The deadline to submit applications is August 30th.
