More people participated in early voting on Monday than any day so far this cycle. 

706 people cast their ballots early in Bradley County on Monday. A total of 2,151 voters have voted in the primary so far. 

Early voting continues through April 28 in Bradley County at the Bradley County Election Commission, Planet Fitness at APD 40, and Bradley Square Mall in the former Bath and Body Works. Monday through Saturday.

An arrest report from the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office says a tragic accident happened at a home under construction on River Run Trail.

One man told arriving officers that workers had cut out a section in a concrete garage floor and dug a trench, and that trench collapsed while the victim was down in the hole.

The still-unidentified man was later recovered, but he had died. His body was taken to the Knox County Regional Forensics Center for an autopsy.

The city of Athens, Tennessee has a new police chief.

City Manager C. Seth Sumner named Fred Schultz to the position this week. Schultz had already been serving as interim police chief for the last 6 months.

That came after the city’s former police chief, Cliff Couch, was fired by the city.

Schultz is a native of Athens and spent 12 years with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office. He also spent a year working for the regional Drug Task Force. And, he served our country as a United States Marine for 6 years.
