The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) says crews are determining the level of damage caused by a landslide in Polk County Wednesday morning.

A tweet from RaeAnn Bradley of TDOT says the slide happened on State Route 30, at log mile 5.8.

Bradley says geotechnical engineers are assessing the situation to figure out what repairs are needed.

The roadway is reduced to one lane. Initially, flaggers were on either side of the slide to direct traffic. However, temporary traffic signals were expected to be installed by the end of the day Wednesday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is investigating a crash in Polk County Wednesday afternoon.

According to the THP, the crash happened just before 1 p.m. on Highway 411 at Crystal Geyser Lane.

In a preliminary report, THP investigators say one vehicle turned onto Highway 411 from Crystal Geyser Lane and into the path of a second vehicle.

The second vehicle struck the first vehicle, causing it to overturn.

The THP says the driver of the second vehicle, 60-year-old Thomas Hall, was transported to UT Medical Center for unknown injuries.

Hurricane Ida has passed but the destruction left in its path is still very present. As the gulf coast starts to rebuild, several groups from the Tennessee Valley have answered the call to help.

A crew from Bradley County Fire Rescue arrived in one of the worst hit areas—Houma, Louisiana—late Tuesday night.

Bradley County Fire Rescue said their biggest task during the trip is helping people protect their homes from further damage.

They were slated to stay three days and two nights but the trip may be extended depending on the need. While Bradley County fire fighters are there on the ground, a Chattanooga-based logistics company is also preparing its fleet to respond to an increased need for supplies.

Trucks from Xpress Global Systems will be carrying supplies like generators and water donated by Home Depot—one of its largest customers—to impacted areas.

On August 3, 2021, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a child assault in progress at the ball fields located on the property of Bradley Central High School at approximately 6:00 pm on Tuesday. Witnesses reported that they observed two men assaulting a handcuffed juvenile by throwing him to the ground, smacking him, making him run laps, flip tires, and cursing at the child as he was observed crying.

Later, the juvenile (age 13) reported that he had been handcuffed, taken from his home, and forced into a vehicle by two men. He was then driven to the ball fields at Bradley Central High School and forced to perform physical exercise in the heat of the day without water. He further reported that when he refused, he was threatened with a Taser by one of the men and the other man unsnapped a holstered handgun putting him in fear.

The two men were identified and taken into custody. They stated that they were sent by their boss with the fugitive recovery company to “work this kid and give him a boot camp”. Both men were charged with Kidnapping and Aggravated Child Abuse.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that both men were employed by Scorpion Fugitive Recovery out of Cleveland, TN, and acted on Bounty Hunter Dawn Renee Williams’ instructions.

On September 1st, The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Fugitive Division took Dawn Renee Williams into custody for her involvement in this crime. The Bradley County Grand Jury returned an indictment and is charging Williams with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Child Abuse, Aggravated Kidnapping, and False Reports.
