From NewsChannel 9…

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says Joker is now out of surgery and in semi-stable condition, and that he will continue to be monitored over the next 24 “crucial” hours.

A BCSO release says at about 2 a.m., officers responded to a report of an auto burglary in progress on Harrison Pike.

One vehicle owner we spoke with has already fixed his broken window and tells us nothing was stolen from the inside.

Arriving officers saw a white Jeep Gladiator speeding away, onto Georgetown Road headed toward northbound I-75.

Deputies made contact with the vehicle at the 25 mile marker. They confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of Hamilton County, and deputies pulled it over.

BCSO says the suspects got out of the vehicle and ran away into the woods around Crown Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Cleveland.

BCSO says K9 Joker was deployed by his handler. When Joker made contact with the suspects, BCSO says he was “shot multiple times.”

Joker was taken to an emergency animal hospital in Chattanooga.

Chattanooga Police have confirmed they are helping the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office with “multiple” people detained on Dahlia Street in Chattanooga in connection with this case.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Tim Siniard reports: Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks was elected to the Tennessee Municipal League’s Board of Directors during the organization’s three-day 81st Annual Conference, which concluded Tuesday at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Brooks will serve as an at-large member of the board.

TML is a voluntary, cooperative organization established by state municipalities for mutual assistance and improvement, with the primary function of working with the Tennessee General Assembly on behalf of those governments, according to the TML. In addition, the organization promotes legislation and opposes legislation harmful to cities.

Brooks told the Cleveland Daily Banner it was an honor to be nominated and elected by his municipal colleagues to serve on the TML board.

From Fox 17 Nashville…

Vanderbilt University Medical Center says technology it developed has led to the discovery of an “ultra-potent” monoclonal antibody against COVID-19 and variants, including delta.

VUMC made the announcement Wednesday, saying the antibody can neutralize against SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind COVID-19. The research was published in “Cell Reports” earlier this month.

This antibody has “uncommon genetic and structural characteristics” that are different from other antibodies used to treat COVID-19. The thought is that SARS-CoV-2 will be less likely to mutate to escape an antibody it hasn’t “seen” before.
