Gov. Bill Lee will visit Cleveland State Community College on Friday to celebrate the grand opening of its new Health & Science Center.

The two-story facility is the first new construction on the Cleveland State campus in over 40 years. The building will house programs for future nurses and first responders with state-of-the-art equipment, labs and simulation areas to immerse students in a realistic environment, according to Dr. Bill Seymour, long-time CSCC president.

Lee and local media will have the opportunity to tour the Cleveland State facility following a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the campus, Seymour stressed.

The new Health & Science Center celebrated its groundbreaking in August 2019. Construction began on the building in a matter of months. Inspired to meet the high demands of new staff entering the medical field, construction on the building continued through the coronavirus pandemic that further heightened the need for health care workers. The 53,000 square-foot, two-story structure was designed by BarberMcMurry Architects.

Larger sections of the building are dedicated to simulation areas for emergency medical training courses, simulating an outpatient doctor’s office and a hospital.

A woman has been arrested in Rhea County after she was found driving under-the-influence last Saturday.

35-year-old Melissa Chance of Dayton, Tennessee, was stopped by Rhea County officials on State Highway 60 after she was found driving a red mail Jeep.

Officials say they found in her possession numerous prescription drugs, gift cards, and numerous personal belongings that had been sent through the United States Postal Service.

Detective Charlie Jenkins and Sergeant Stephen Husky from the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department contacted the United States Postal Inspectors about the mail theft, and the mail is currently under investigation.

The suspect has been charged with DUI, Simple Possession with Intent to Sell, Implied Consent Violation, Theft of Property, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Officials say the suspect was an employee of the Dayton Post Office and has also worked for other locations in the Hamilton County area.

Some have reported finding marbles inside.

The McMahan Law Firm, on the Northshore, is now offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who has information about who is behind it.

Since October, the McMahan Law Firm has had four different windows busted.

Police have taken nearly 50 reports of vandalism to windows from projectiles, in many cases marbles, since September.

The McMahan Law Firm has $1,000 out there for anyone who has information that leads to an arrest.

Chattanooga police also have a reward of up to $1,000.

If you know anything, even the slightest bit of information, it will help police catch the vandals.
