Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland is honored to receive the 2021 Affiliate of the Year Award for the state of Tennessee. The award was presented to Executive Director, Tammy Johnson, at the State Conference in Murfreesboro, TN, July 19-21. Judge Barry Tidwell presented the award, along with Colleen Dudley, State Executive Director.

With the challenges of a pandemic and destructive tornadoes last year, Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee saw many heroes around the state rising to the top. There were a number of nominations for affiliates who were out front, serving their communities in difficult times, encouraging their staff, looking everywhere for funding to continue to provide housing so more people could be “Safe at Home”, not just during a pandemic. Habitat of Cleveland was selected for providing outstanding service to families and their community through extraordinarily trying times, and for exhibiting exemplary leadership.

Fire and rescue crews are working to find the operator of an empty boat that was found on the Tennessee River near Ross’s Landing on Wednesday.

Chattanooga Fire Department spokesperson Lindsey Rogers says crews were called to the 100 block of Riverfront Parkway around 9:15 p.m. after an empty boat was found floating in the area.

Rogers says a bystander swam to the boat and brought it back to shore.

Rogers says the boat was loaded with fishing equipment but no operator was found.

Rogers says it’s unclear if anyone is missing or in the water at this time.

The East Ridge Fire Department and Hamilton County Marine Rescue have been called in to help with the response.
