The Bradley County Commission is anticipating nearly $21 million in additional federal funding, but also wants to stave off a drop in state aid from the State of Tennessee. Commissioner Milan Blake noted last week that in February, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee in his State of the State Address “somewhat committed to additional funds for counties, like they did last year, then we found out the federal government is coming with some additional funds. Blake added the local legislators he has spoken with “are on board with our thought” that the state should move forward with allocating funds for counties. He proposed drafting a letter to go out next week to those legislators “that way they have that in hand.” Blake asked the Bradley County Commission to consider such a letter in today’s voting session. Commissioners agreed, making the lone agenda item for that meeting the motion to send a letter to Gov. Lee and the Bradley County legislative delegation requesting state aid for counties be included in the 2021-22 fiscal year budget.
