Autumn Hughes report: Artificial turf may be in place by Aug. 20 at both Bradley Central and Walker Valley high schools, depending on weather.

The Bradley County Commission’s Education Committee heard an update recently from Bradley County Schools Director Dr. Linda Cash and Kyle Page, project manager for the PIE Center and GOAL Academy principal.

Page said Monday the Walker Valley contract is settled, the felt underlay installed, the electrical boxes are in, and they are waiting for the curb to be poured. Later in the week, actual turf installation began.

At Bradley Central, demolition is nearly complete, electrical boxes are in, concrete forms were going in on the north endzone, and drainage issues were being addressed, Page said.

Page added the contract has the contractor paying the school system $1,000 per day for delays beyond the Aug. 20 finish date for Walker Valley and the Sept. 10 finish date for Bradley Central. In addition, there is a $10,000 penalty for home games not able to be played, if the projects are delayed.
