After nearly 24 years on the bench, Circuit Court Judge Lawrence H. Puckett is retiring on July 1, leading to a vacancy in the 10th Judicial District.
Puckett’s replacement will be named by the Trial Court Vacancy Commission, based on applications submitted by this week’s deadline.
The 10th Judicial District covers Bradley, Polk, McMinn and Monroe counties.
According to the Trial Court Vacancy Commission, qualified applicants must be licensed attorneys who are at least 30 years of age, have been residents of the state for five years, and are residents of the 10th Judicial District.
Interested applicants must complete the Trial Court Vacancy Commission Application, which is available at www.tncourts.gov, and submit it to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon CDT on Thursday, April 8. Applicants must submit by the deadline: (1) the original signed (unbound) application; and (2) a digital copy of the application, in order to have his/her name placed on the list of candidates for consideration for the judicial vacancy for which he/she is applying.
The Trial Court Vacancy Commission will hold a hearing virtually via video conference using Zoom on Thursday, May 13, at 10 a.m. EDT. The hearing will be livestreamed for public viewing at http://www.youtube.com/user/TNCourts

A couple days after a Chattanooga mother said leaders at Silverdale Baptist Academy told her her son needed to cut his hair to attend in the fall, the school has had to increase security because of threats.
Silverdale Baptist Academy Head of School Becky Hansard said the hair length policy, where males have to have their hair cut above their collarbone, is about rules and not race.
Hansard said that any policy at SBA is not a race-related policy at all, as she would never allow that.
Other private schools in Chattanooga have similar policies.

The labor statistics for February are in.The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Tennessee was 6.2%, down from 6.3% in January, and up from 3.5% one year ago.
Moving closer to home, in Bradley County the unemployment rate was 4.7%, down from 5.2% in January, and up from 3.7% one year ago. McMinn County was at 5%, down from 5.2% in January, and up from 4.1% one year ago. Meigs County was at 6.3%, down from 6.8% in January, and up from 5.1% one year ago. Polk County’s unemployment rate was at 5%, down from 5.2% in January, and up from 4.7% one year ago. Rhea County was at 6.3%, down from 7.2% in January, and up from 5.7% one year ago. Hamilton County’s unemployment rate was 4.5%, down from 5.1% in January, and up from 3.6% one year ago.
