According to the TBI deputies with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after 2:00 am to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of County Road 116 in Athens Tennessee. On arrival deputies encountered a man brandishing and pointing a weapon at them. The two deputies fired shots, hitting the man. He was then airlifted to a Chattanooga Hospital for treatment. Neither officer was injured during the incident.

The TBI is working to determine the timeline of things leading up to the shooting.

This is an ongoing investigation.

A Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was involved in a shooting Friday night. 

BCSO says just before midnight Saturday morning , a Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducting a vehicle stop near Charleston, TN was involved in a shooting.

One occupant of the vehicle was shot during the incident by the Bradley County deputy and succumbed to their injuries at the location of the vehicle stop.  

Sheriff Steve Lawson notified the District Attorney General’s Office of the Tenth Judicial District and requested that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conduct an independent investigation of the incident per protocol.  

Any additional questions related to this incident should be directed to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation until they have completed their review.

Autumn Hughes reports: The last day to register to vote in the May 3rd Bradley County primary is today. The postmark date for all mail-in registrations is also today.

Fran Green, Bradley County’s administrator of elections, said as long as a person is 18 by Election Day on May 3, they can register to vote by today’s deadline.

Voters may update their names or addresses with the Election Commission by April 29th. Tennessee does not require you to declare a political party.
