A local man was arrested on Tuesday in Bradley County in connection to the Capitol riots in Washington, DC on January 6.

According to the arrest warrant from the FBI, Joseph Padilla, who is also known as Jose Padilla, admitted to his role in the riots on Facebook and a website called “TheDonald.win.”

In one comment, Padilla called the rioters “patriots who were trying to restore the public” and said “God was on his side.”

In the criminal complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Padilla can be seen in various online videos as well as police body cam footage participating in the riot.

The complaint says Padilla is facing six charges including, Obstruction of Law Enforcement During Civil Disorder, Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon and Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds.

He was arrested at an apartment complex in Cleveland on Tuesday morning.

From NewsChannel 9…

A brutal street beating caught on video is now under investigation by the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Derek Walker took the video and posted it on his Facebook page.

He tells NewsChannel 9 it happened Sunday evening around 5 p.m. off Highway 64 in the eastern part of Bradley County.

In the video, you can see a group of people yelling at each other before the fight turns physical. The sheriff’s office says both adults and teenagers were involved.

Towards the end, one man is already lying on the ground when two others kick him in the head and stomach.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office says detectives have been investigating since before the video surfaced.

According to spokesperson Taylor Woodruff, “Identities of the individuals involved have been confirmed with interviews underway.”

Woodruff says all the people involved knew each other in some way, but what exactly started the fight is not clear.

He says the victim called the police after the beating ended, and that victim was the only person on the scene when officers arrived. Woodruff says he was taken to a nearby hospital but has since been released.

Assault-related charges are pending.
