The latest on the Wacker incident…

Incident Command has advised the environmental reading outside of the Wacker facility is 0.0 HCL. Additionally, it has been determined the visible vapor cloud that prompted an additional closure of Lauderdale Memorial Highway and residents to shelter in place a second time was only steam. It’s important for residents to know that advisories were only put into place as a matter of precaution when the change of events was discovered.

After speaking with representatives at Tennova Hospital, 8 people were treated for symptoms related to the Wacker incident. However, 7 out of the 8 patients were transported by private vehicle, and a Wacker firefighter was transported via ambulance.

As an abundance of caution Bradley County Schools have decided to close all schools today.

As any active advisories expire residents will be informed on social media and through local media outlets.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

The Bradley County Commission voted Tuesday night to keep two familiar faces in their current leadership positions, and to upgrade and renovate the energy systems in three of its most used facilities.

Chairman Louie Alford and Vice Chairman Jeff Yarber were returned to their positions by unanimous acclamation votes.

Alford was nominated by Commissioner Thomas Crye and Yarber was nominated by Commissioner Mark Hall. There were no opposing nominations made for either position.

To begin this new commission year, the 14 members voted to approve a resolution that will permit County Mayor D. Gary Davis to proceed with negotiating a contract and acquiring funding that will upgrade the energy systems at the courthouse, annex and Justice Center.

As with the school project, the majority of the funding will come from energy savings which will be guaranteed by the terms of the contract.

It is expected the work, which will also include new windows and renovated restrooms, could start as early as next month.

From WRCB Channel 3…

Hurricane Irma has hit the Caribbean islands and it is headed toward Florida.

After a mandatory evacuation was issued for Miami-Dade county, millions of people are leaving the sunshine state. On Thursday, traffic was backed up as far as the eye can see on I-75 near Ocala, Florida.

Some of those people made their way to the Tennessee Valley looking for vacant hotel rooms.

Hotel clerks in Dalton said they have received hundreds of calls from people trying to get away from Hurricane Irma. Several hotels are already booked and others are filling up fast.

In hotel parking lots, Florida license plates are appearing.

Hotels in the area have housed hurricane evacuees in the past. It is said there’s a reason people are heading in this direction.
